HRC Mission Statement
The purpose of the City of Beacon Human Relations Commission is to advance and foster a community climate of acceptance, affirmation, and equity.
The commission is a representative body of the City of Beacon and our function is to inquire into incidents of tension and conflict within the community in addition to investigating reports from citizens who perceive their rights have been violated. The purpose of these investigations are to arbitrate and resolve where possible or escalate to the appropriate City of Beacon functionary for further resolution. All reports and actions are reported to City Council annually or on an as-needed basis.
The role of the commission is to act as a community voice regarding incidents or transgressions where safety, equity, and quality of life are jeopardized and promote actions that facilitate change.
The commission will coordinate with other community organizations including but not limited to civic leadership and government officials, police, religious and volunteer organizations, and our county, state and federal human rights agencies as appropriate.
The Commission consists of no less than five and no more than fifteen members. The selection of members shall take into consideration a cross-section of the community, including all religious, racial, ethnic, and business groups within the City.
Upcoming Public Meetings
