Beacon Recreation Department Update- March 23, 2021
2021 Annual Egg Hunt at Memorial Park Egg Hunt at Memorial Park- Current mandated outdoor gathering sizes will prevent us from safely holding this annual Spring event. In keeping participant and volunteer safety number one priority, we have made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s event. We look forward to seeing you in 2022.
Earth Day Cleanups- Our annual Earth Day Cleanup is scheduled for Saturday April 24th. Consider pitching in and helping Beacon tidy up from a long cold winter. There will be coordinated cleanup all around town and we would love your help. Thank you to The Beacon Green Coalition and the Conservation Advisory Committee for all their hard work coordination this year’s event. Signup info will be able soon.
2021 City Wide Yard Sale-The annual sale will be back provided participants follow basic COVID guidelines. This year’s sale is scheduled for Saturday June 12th. Advertise your sale for weeks! List your yard sale for $10.00 or talk to your neighbors and list three for $20.00. Your sale will be listed by street address. This list will be available to shoppers on the morning of the sale at the Recreation Center as well as online leading up to the sale. Summer Programs 2021- I know many residents and parents are starting to think about summer plans and with that comes thoughts of camp.
Here at Beacon Rec we are very confident that we will have a summer program this year and wanted to share our plans with you to date.
Camp @ the Camp- Our plans are to have three two-week sessions of camp. Every child will be able to register for one session. Because of COVID, we anticipate having a smaller number of children able to participate each day. With each child participating in only one session, we hope all of our campers will get the opportunity to come for some camp. Dates will be:
- July 5th to July 16th
- July 19th to July 30th
- August 2nd to August 13th
Tennis Clinic– weekday mornings- Coach Ryley is back offering tennis instruction for high school players and all others ages 8 and up. Dates will be:
- June 28th to July 2nd
- July 12 to July 16th
Multi-Sport Clinic– weekday mornings– Coaches McPartland and Mullins are back for a multi-sport camp, designed to provide children an opportunity to develop good character, learn valuable life skills, discover new interests, and make new friends. Registration will be to students enrolled in grades 4th to 8th. Two 1-week sessions, Dates TBA.
We anticipate registration opening on May 4th. We say ‘anticipate’ because we are still waiting for clarity from our permitting agency in terms of what regulations may be in place this year as they affect our programs. Without this information, we are not yet entirely certain how many children will be able to participate or what the details might be. Regardless, we are starting to put together some plans.
The Beacon Pool- We are laying the groundwork to be open for the 2021 season. Our plans will include a few necessary upgrades and working out a public swim schedule that factor in COVID restrictions and protocols. We will need to limit the overall capacity so our thought is we will have 2-3 swim sessions per day(a couple hours each) and patrons will book the day and time slot they would like to swim online prior to arrival.
In Our Parks- We are working out a summer schedule of family friendly activities to include performances, movies, and other socially distanced friendly offerings. Additionally with the easement of some COVID restrictions, all of the youth sport organizations will be able to provide programming to residents. Beacon Junior Baseball, Beacon Soccer Club, Beacon Bears Football, and Beacon Girls Softball.
