A State of Emergency is hereby declared in the City of Beacon effective at 8:00 P.M., October 29, 2012.
This State of Emergency has been declared due to strong winds and heavy rain resulting from Hurricane Sandy. This situation threatens the public safety.
This State of Emergency will remain in effect until rescinded by a subsequent order.
City of Beacon Emergency Officials are monitoring Hurricane Sandy closely and are prepared to respond. We will provide updates as necessary regarding the storm via the Emergency Operation Center hot line at 845-838-5081, Channel 22 and our website: www.cityofbeacon.org. Please only call the Police Department in the event of an emergency at 831-4111. For Fire or Medical Emergencies please dial 911.
Please be advised the City of Beacon now has an Emergency Operation Center Phone line. You can call this line during the event of an emergency to receive information.
A Veterans Day Ceremony will be held at the Memorial Building (413 Main Street) on November 12 at 11 a.m. Mayor Randy Casale will be the guest speaker. Music and singing will be provided by Tom and Joanne Fitzgerald. Refreshments will be served after the ceremony.
There will be a public meeting of the city's Main Street/Waterfront Linkage Committee at 7 p.m. on November 15. The committee will present its proposals for rezoning the Main Street and Waterfront linkage area. The meeting will take place at the Memorial Building (413 Main Street). All are welcome to attend.
The City of Beacon is instituting a curfew on Oct 30th and 31st from 9pm-6am for all individuals under the age of 18. Any individuals age 18 or under will be taken home by the police or brought to the police station for pick up by an adult 21 years or older. In addition Beacon residents who wish to participate in trick-or-treating should leave their outside lights on, and those residents not wishing to participate should leave their outside lights off. We ask that trick-or-treaters respect these rules so that all may have a safe and happy Halloween.

This year's Halloween Parade will take place on Sunday, October 21. The parade will gather at 1:00 on South Avenue between the Welcome Center and Bank Square Coffee House. At 2:00, police and fire will escore the parade down Main Street to the dummy light.

The "Amount Due" on the October billls erroneously includes 1% projected interest. If your water account does not have a past due balance, please pay the amount listed as the "Current Charges." We are sorry for any inconvience this may have caused.
As stated on the bill, all past due balances, plus additional penalties and interest, are scheduled to be removed from the system in order to be added to your tax bill if not paid by November 9th. ONLY CERTIFIED FUNDS WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER OCTOBER 31ST FOR PAST DUE BALANCES.
