LETTER TO THE COMMUNITY
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the professional and volunteer fire fighters and emergency response personnel for their quick and courageous rescue and fire fighting actions they took on the night of March 26th to a major house fire at 43 Ackerman Street, Beacon, NY.
As one of the survivors of the horrific house fire, I can state without doubt that had they not responded and acted as they all did, I would not be writing this “Thank You Letter to the Community” to acknowledge their heroic efforts. I will be forever grateful to all these heroes for saving my life, the life of my mother, Lucy, and the life of the home health aide, Daffney. You, men and women, are very special people to put your lives on the line to save the lives of others – Again, Thank You.
I would like to especially thank Beacon Firefighters Mark Romanelli, Matthew Smith and Brian Davis; and Fishkill Firefighters Danny Burke, Brandon Knapp, Brian Canero, and Fire Chief Dean Scofield. I am told they all helped to rescue us from the blazing house fire.
I would further like to say thank you to all firefighters and emergency response personnel at the following locations:
Beacon Police Department
Engine 33-11 Beacon Engine
Engine 33-12 Tompkins Hose
Engine 33-45 Mase Hook & Ladder
Truck 33-55 Rescue Department
Beacon Volunteer Ambulance Corps
Mutual Aid -
Village of Fishkill Fire Department
Hughsonville Fire Department
Dutchess County Bureau of Fire
Phillipstown Ambulance Corps
Glenham Fire Department (Stand-by)
Rombout Fire Department (Stand-by)
Thank you all for my life, my mother’s life, and the home health aide’s life. We are all blessed to have such brave individuals, as you are, for the new life you have given us – Again – Thank You – God Bless You and Your Families.
I would like to express my gratitude to my many friends, as well as many others who have reached out to me with hospital visits; get well cards; phone calls; and other personal expressions of concern and best wishes. Many of you have assisted me in various ways during my (3) three-week treatment and recovery in the Westchester Burn Center. As I begin to get my personal affairs in order, once again, I thank all of you for your generosity and kindness.
I would like to take this opportunity to give an update on the status of the survivors of the house fire. My mother, Lucy, has extensive burns primarily on her legs, arms and shoulders and at this time remains at the Westchester Burn Center. She is in critical but guardedly stable condition; is still being treated for her burns and will probably remain at the Burn Center for a few more months. I am hopeful and praying for her recovery – please join me with your prayers as well – Thank You.
