Celebrate on Second Saturday, September 11, 2010 at 4pm
The Beacon Welcome Center will open its doors to the public on Beacon Second Saturday, September 11, 2010 at 4pm. The wonderful new building has been created by and will be staffed by Beacon volunteers. Come see inside, and enjoy light refreshments and entertainment by the students of Ballet Arts Studio & Dutchess Ballet Company.
The Center will serve as a welcome to visitors where they will be able to obtain information regarding the city and the area, helping visitors take full advantage of what the area has to offer. The Center will be staffed by volunteers starting Second Saturday and will be open on weekends: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday 11am—6pm.
The Welcome Center is a striking example of what can be done when community members work together to realize a unique vision. Many volunteers working under the leadership of George Mansfield have made the most of a small amount of seed money from Preserve America. Beacon resident Cindy Marsh is coordinating the volunteers. Two training sessions have been held with the assistance of Mary Kay Vrba and Lydia Higginson of Dutchess County Tourism, and Linda Hubbard of RiverWinds Gallery. RiverWinds Gallery, at 172 Main St, will continue to function as the Beacon Information Center when the Welcome Center is not open.
