Recreation Department

The Beacon Recreation Department is committed to providing opportunities and experiences that enhance the quality of life, health, and wellness for residents of all ages. 

The Department offers a diversity of recreational, social and educational programs, as well as special events and facilities at an affordable cost. These programs are designed to reflect the current and anticipated needs and interests of both the individual and the community.

PARK PLAYGROUND DAYS & KIDS ON THE GO
Registration is now open for Memorial Park and Green Street Park summer programs.
Programs run from June 28, 2010 through August 20, 2010.
Registration deadline is June 18, 2010.


BEACON SUMMER HOOPS BASKETBALL PROGRAM
Registration is open to youth ages 6 to 18.
City of Beacon Residents $50, each additional child in family $45.

Return completed registration form by Friday, June 4, 2010 by mail (or droppped it off at City Hall between 9am—3pm)
Or signup on May 15, 2010 9am—1pm at Loopers Court, RT 9D and South Ave.
All players will receive a summer league T-Shirt. Players in the instructional Pee-Wee & Intermediate Division will also receive a basketball.


SUMMER EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES
Beacon Recreation is seeking qualified individuals for summer employment with the Recreation Department. With the closing of our pool in 2010, the department will be seeking summer counselors for our camp programs only. Complete and return the employment application by May 21, 2010.


CITY-WIDE YARD SALE
Saturday, June 5th 2010 9am to 3pm

Attention Sellers: List your yard sale for $10 or talk to your neighbors and list 3 for $20. Your sale will be listed by street address. This list will be available to shoppers on the morning of the sale at City Hall as well as online for the weeks leading up to the sale. You will also receive a City Wide Yard Sale sign to mark your house on the day of the sale. The City Wide Yard Sale will be locally advertised by the Recreation Department.
Please submit your registration form and fees by May 31, 2010.

WOMEN'S RECREATION SOFTBALL LEAGUE

The Women’s Recreational Softball League will begin playing Wednesday nights in May at Memorial Park

SWIM LESSONS
Beacon Recreation has partnered with the Newburgh YMCA to offer a new Learn to Swim program. Swim lessons build aquatic skills and confidence in Parent/Child, Preschool and School Age Children.
All lessons are held at the Beacon High School pool, 101 Matteawan Road, Beacon, NY, 12508
Saturdays 10am-1pm

$90 for the session per level per class time.

6th ANNUAL REE-PLAY SALE
The 6th Annual Ree-Play Sale is set for April 30-May 1, 2010.  For more information on how to be a part of this annual event to benefit our community please visit the Wee-Play website. Tax-deductible cash donations to the Wee Play Park Fund came made through the Community Foundation of Dutchess County (referencing "Wee Play" as the fund name).

MEN'S FLAG FOOTBALL LEAGUE FORMING
Looking for 6 teams to start a Men’s Flag Football League. Games will be played on Saturdays from April thru June at the Pop Warner field in Memorial Park.
Team fee: $700 for City of Beacon residents
Team fee includes all game gear, officials for the season, and team shirts.

    Local 845 presents Beacon Riverfest 2010, a free concert in Riverfront Park. Free and open to the public, Beacon Riverfest will be held on Saturday, June 26, from 2pm to dusk—rain or shine.

    Three bands will headline on one center stage in the first of what is planned to be an annual event: “Super Rock” legends The Fleshtones; Grammy-nominated recording artist and performer, Tracy Bonham; and Brooklyn-based alt-country jam band, Yarn.
