With the help of our Police and Fire Chiefs, staff, and volunteers here in Beacon youth will have a positive introduction to a career in law enforcement and professional firefighting. Our Junior Police and Fire Academy will meet for two weeks from July 25 to August 5.  A variety of locations will be used to host the program including the recreation center, fire houses, city hall, and the police station. Field trips to include visits to local training and emergency centers and professionals and volunteers will share their experiences in these careers. This will be a fun experience for all. The goal of the academy is to help participating youth to understand the role police officers and firefighters play in the community, job duties performed and requirements of becoming a police officer or firemen.  In addition, the program will foster relationships between the officers and the youth participants. This will be accomplished with mock situations and lectures, field trips, physical fitness exercises, and games.

Fun With a Splash of Confidence- Swimming Lessons at Beacon High School

Tai chi, pronounced "tie chee", is a mind-body practice that originated in China as a martial art. A person doing tai chi moves his body slowly and gently, while breathing deeply and meditating (tai chi is sometimes called "moving meditation"). Many practitioners believe that tai chi helps the flow throughout the body of a proposed vital energy called qi(pronounced "chee," it means "air" or "power").

Those looking to make a splash by adding a low-impact, high-energy aquatic exercise to their fitness routine. Aqua Zumba® blends the Zumba® philosophy with water resistance, for one pool party you shouldn’t miss! There is less impact on your joints during an Aqua Zumba® class so you can really let loose. Water creates natural resistance, which means every step is more challenging and helps tone your muscles.

The Theatre at USC Park

The Theatre at University Settlement Camp Park can be rented for weddings and special events.

I would strongly suggest visiting, in that it is a rustic space and not for everyone. It definitely is not a catering hall, more of a barn in the woods. Hardwood floors, two bathrooms and a small utility sink are the basic site amenities. Any event specific supplies must be brought (i.e. tables, chairs, caterers prep, etc.). Consider it a blank canvas. We do have a few area rental companies and catering companies, familiar with the layout and specifications of University Settlement Camp that we can provide to you if the need should arise, in order to facilitate the planning of your special event.

The address for the theatre, is 724 Wolcott Ave. Beacon NY 12508. Our park is open dawn to dusk, so you can get a sense of the setting.  If you would like a tour of the theatre, that would have to be scheduled weekdays, between 9am and 3pm.

Tenting is allowed, but does require additional permitting, with additional fees.  We have included the tenting application.

The rental fee in 2016, will be $2,700.00, which includes use of the theatre for 3 days, front and rear lawns, and a portion of the field for parking.

From one of our renters in 2015- “University Settlement Camp was a dreamy location to have my wedding! I highly recommend it to anyone who has a rustic/vintage/classic/Americana theme in mind for their wedding. USC is a nearly untouched vintage summer camp nestled into the base of Mount Beacon. We held our ceremony under a tree (with plenty of creative license given) and comfortably sat 75 people in the theater, with a three piece band on the stage and plenty of room for a dance floor. The City of Beacon did an excellent job coordinating our event and they did everything they could to help accommodate us. Congratulations and good luck! -  Erin Macchiaroli”
