Welcome to the Beacon After School Program, held directly in your child’s school. This program offers more than just child care; the program offers exposure to many different activities. Some activities may be familiar, some might be new to you and your child. It is our goal to provide a safe and fun recreational experience to all participating children while providing opportunity for enrichment.
Each day, the children are dismissed from their classroom to the gymnasium, where they have about thirty minutes of free play followed by a snack. Children select their activities each day. From 4:00 to 4:50 is the first activity period followed by a second fifty minute activity period. Scheduled activities are complete by 5:45. Parents are welcome to pick their child up at any time prior to 6:00. Your child may attend any number of days per week. Activities will fill up fast; secure your space early if you want a particular activity. In addition to the main activities above, children have alternative activities to select from each day. This includes an option for homework help.
We offer four sessions each school year, each session will have different activities at each school. You must re-register for each session.
This program is registered through the New York State Office of Children and Family Services. As per OCFS standards, staff are trained in CPR and First Aid and have passed a criminal background check.
The Beacon Pool is located at the Park at University Settlement Camp, 724 Wolcott Avenue. The pool itself is 140 feet by 50 feet and progresses in depth from 2 feet to 8 feet deep making it perfect for swimmers and water lovers of all ages. We are very excited to be given the opportunity to provide the community with a fun, affordable, and local swimming spot. To continue our success, we need your support. Please consider purchasing one of the following season pass options.

Tai chi, pronounced "tie chee", is a mind-body practice that originated in China as a martial art. A person doing tai chi moves his body slowly and gently, while breathing deeply and meditating (tai chi is sometimes called "moving meditation"). Many practitioners believe that tai chi helps the flow throughout the body of a proposed vital energy called qi(pronounced "chee," it means "air" or "power").

The Theatre at USC Park
The Theatre at University Settlement Camp Park can be rented for weddings and special events.
I would strongly suggest visiting, in that it is a rustic space and not for everyone. It definitely is not a catering hall, more of a barn in the woods. Hardwood floors, two bathrooms and a small utility sink are the basic site amenities. Any event specific supplies must be brought (i.e. tables, chairs, caterers prep, etc.). Consider it a blank canvas. We do have a few area rental companies and catering companies, familiar with the layout and specifications of University Settlement Camp that we can provide to you if the need should arise, in order to facilitate the planning of your special event.
The address for the theatre, is 724 Wolcott Ave. Beacon NY 12508. Our park is open dawn to dusk, so you can get a sense of the setting. If you would like a tour of the theatre, that would have to be scheduled weekdays, between 9am and 3pm.
Tenting is allowed, but does require additional permitting, with additional fees. We have included the tenting application.
The rental fee in 2016, will be $2,700.00, which includes use of the theatre for 3 days, front and rear lawns, and a portion of the field for parking.
From one of our renters in 2015- “University Settlement Camp was a dreamy location to have my wedding! I highly recommend it to anyone who has a rustic/vintage/classic/Americana theme in mind for their wedding. USC is a nearly untouched vintage summer camp nestled into the base of Mount Beacon. We held our ceremony under a tree (with plenty of creative license given) and comfortably sat 75 people in the theater, with a three piece band on the stage and plenty of room for a dance floor. The City of Beacon did an excellent job coordinating our event and they did everything they could to help accommodate us. Congratulations and good luck! - Erin Macchiaroli”
