The Highway Department maintains the city streets and parks, and manages curbside trash collection.

During winter, the Department is responsible for keeping 59 miles of road clear for emergency traffic. Workers collect Christmas trees after the holidays.

In the summer, Department personnel water roadside flowers, sweep streets, and mow grass on all City properties.

During the spring and fall, the Department collects bagged leaves left curbside.

To keep the roads in good repair, the Department patches with hot blacktop mix; clears, inspects and repairs more than 800 storm basins; and installs and repairs street signs and poles.

Maintaining City of Beacon roadways also include removing dead animals from City streets, acting as school crossing guards, hanging holiday lights in winter and flower pots and flags during the spring and summer months.
